This is a very personal testimony. I've been listening to self talk since the mid 90s when I met Dr. Helmstetter for the first time. I listened inconsistently until I came to find an LCI Coach to coach me - that was Debie Friedman and she is still my coach today. That was in 2003. I can honestly say that I've been listening to self talk at least once a day since then. Actually since becoming a coach I listen to it 2-3 times a day. Right now my regimen includes listening to "Believing In Incredible You" in the morning while showering and getting ready for my day (That track is on the weight loss CDs) and then every night I fall asleep to "Night Time Quality of Life." During the day I'll usually listen to something from Personal and Professional Success, which by the way I recommend every coach having.
In 2005 my 9 children and I went through a very personal crisis. My wife of 15 years, Joanne, passed away after a short battle with cancer. I can honestly say that self talk played a major role in getting me through my grief. But not in the way that you might think. For me it let me experience my grief fully because it taught me that I was ok and that all the feelings I were experiencing were normal. It gave me the support and guidance I needed at the time and quite honestly opened up my spiritual connection. It gave me hope for the future and helped me believe that we were going to be ok. I will tell you this: self talk combined with prayer will work miracles in your life. Today it still gives me that support that we have a very bright future in front of us. For the last 3 years, my younger children have been falling asleep to Shadrack the Bear. These are the self talk for children CDs. They cannot fall asleep without listening to them. I've set up a boombox in the hall and play the CDs from there. I get a smile on my face when my 4 year old little James says, "Daddy, are you going to put on Shadrack?" (he's been listening since he was 1). When I travel on business and sitters stay the night (like my Mother-in-law) I have to chuckle at what they think about me brainwashing my children! They don't understand but that's exactly what I'm doing-washing out the negative and replacing it with positive. I have two daughters with learning disabilities and their teachers marvel at how positive they are and how hard they work at getting better. When my older kids have different issues I always recommend the self talk for older kids, although they're tougher to convince. My oldest, who will be 18 this year has just started listening to Health & Fitness when she works out. I'm excited to see the changes she'll get from this. Folks, these CDs work and this program works. I'm grateful to Dr. Helmstetter for having the foresight to see what self talk can do. And I thank God often that I'm a part of this program and the Life Coach Institute! Thanks Dr. Helmstetter! Your work is surely changing the lives of 10 people in New Jersey! |

Thank you for sharing your story, Rich. I've only listened to a few of them so far and like you I tend to listen to 2-3 a day. And I agree with you about the Personal and Professional Success cd's and every coach listening to those. They were the first I started to listen to (just gravitated to them intuitively) and they really get me motivated in the morning. I tend to listen more in the day rather than evening. I think it's so important especially in these times of world news media negativity that we fill our minds with more positive to counteract it and also to reprogram that past old negative self-talk.

Diana, thank you for your comments. Self talk is a life saver! I couldn't agree with you more about the negativity on the news and all the bad things people are talking about these days. Self talk definitely provides a "quiet place" to go and get reinforced and recharged! Keep up the great work. I like your website too.

I have just started listening to self-talk just a few days ago. I have already begun to see a difference!
First of all, I am reading the book, "Who Are You Really and What Do You Really Want?" I am listening to self-talk on self-esteem, quality of life, career achievement and financial success. I have started to see the error of my previous programming! You are so right about first realizing what we are doing or saying that is wrong to ourselves! That revelation has been quite liberating! I feel now that I am better equipped to make changes because I have found the source of many of my issues. Now that I am more aware, I feel that I am taking the positive steps to change my programming for the better. Thank you for all of your work in this field Dr. Shad! I am so glad I found this information. I will work diligently to make changes in my life and in the lives of others!

I listen to the Self Talk and found that immediately it feels better. They state and reinforce just how positive things can and will be. It's great. The more i go over this program and talk about it with others, the more I believe in it. If that's possible.
